Community & Outreach...

St Leonard's church has always had a place in the heart of the community.  Being actively involved in village and community life is an important part of our mission.  Just as Jesus took practical steps to love, help, heal and support all he embraced, so we too try to organise ourselves to make sure our help is relevant and useful in today's changing world.  By following Jesus's example to love and help your neighbour, so we hope to make a positive difference within our village and community.

For the past 15 years the Ministry Team in Sherfield have worked hard to establish a firm foundation for these Christian communities, based on strong, methodical Biblical teaching in the churches, prayer and regular nurture through Home Groups, Christian teaching courses and active discipleship.

‘Messy church’ is held at the Community Hub in Sherfield Park on the second Friday of each month at 4.30 pm to 5.45 pm and caters for up to 25 young children each month.  Lots of craft, worship and tea for the children.  All are welcome!

An ‘In Touch’ care program has also been set up for the congregation.

Warn Places operates on Wednesdays from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm in the winter months offerings soup, hot drinks and good company.  In the Summer coffee and good company is offered from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

From the Summer we will be offering a Memory Cafe on Thursdays from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.

St Leonard's contributes to the whole community by helping to publish the village magazine: the Loddon Link.

Bramley Primary School, which also serves Sherfield, is a Church of England foundation (Voluntary Controlled).  Thanks to a supportive Head Teacher, the rector of the benefice regularly conduct assemblies there, as well as having some Involvement with two other local schools.  Plans are in preparation to introduce “Open the Book”, a weekly Bible story read and acted by adults for the school children at assembly.

St Leonard’s also supports Church Mission Society mission workers and other Christian charities.
