History

Our Building & History

As a place of worship St. Leonard's has been at the heart of the community for over 900 years. Little remains of the original church building, which was extensively restored in the late 19th Century.

In recent years major refurbishment works have been completed including the re-shingling of the spire, an expansion of the car parking facilities and most recently, after considerable fund raising, the addition of a hall with kitchen facilities. This facility is used extensively for community events as our local parish has grown rapidly over the last 15 years, such as our Supper Club, Cafe Church, Open House and is available for wedding, baptism and funeral functions. The history of St. Leonards is strongly linked to events in the Sherfield area and we even have a pirate buried in our grounds!

Everyone is welcome to visit for quiet reflection, a prayer, to study the architecture and history of the church or to view with a wedding in mind.

If you would like to arrange a convenient time to visit please Contact Us.

There is a large carpark at the church and parking is free.

There are information brochures to be found at the church to take away and keep.

For children we have a quiz leaflet for inquisitive minds and all the answers are in the church.....if you can find them!

Below is a picture gallery of the building.
