VE80 SUPPER
On Friday 9 May, over eighty people sat down to a meal in Sherfield Village Hall to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 in May 1945. The evening was hosted by members of St Leonard’s church and our local RBL branch.
A happy and hard working kitchen team prepared a very tasty chicken roast main course followed by Union Jack cake and trifles. The tables were adorned with Union Flag tablecloths a small floral arrangements bringing colour and an overall feeling of celebration to the hall. Everyone from St Leonard’s church played their part in making this event a huge success
Although being held in the village hall, due to capacity needs, it was an event for the whole community.
The tables we arranged to give a community street party feel, along with period music being streamed and a slide show presenting photos from 1945 VE Day and RBL information.
After everyone had enjoyed the supper, John Swanston read one of Winston Churchill’s VE Day speeches, paying tribute to Britain’s armed forces, honouring those who died serving their country and inviting the nation to celebrate the victory won at such great cost. It was an evening of warm friendships and fun enjoyed by everyone!
This was followed by an auction with some interesting lots generously donated by local businesses and individuals and a raffle with equally splendid prizes, many from local and Dorset based businesses. The organisers express their deep gratitude to all who so generously donated these prizes.
The whole evening was a joy and the sound of people chatting and sharing memories and making new friends over a gorgeous meal filled the hall with a wonderful atmosphere.

Forest Outdoor Church

This will be outdoors, as the heading suggests, and aimed at young families and children. It will include informal worship and activities with a focus on nature such as listening to the sounds of nature, the patterns of nature, the colours of nature and developing our senses. More information will be available later.
A small group of people will be needed to run this 6 or 12 times a year. As it grows and gets established my aim is to encourage adult participants to take on more responsibility for running events with Church members present as facilitators to maintain a Christian focus.
